About Gabrielle:
I am an AIH?ME-Yoga Facilitator and an AIH?ME Coach, a RYT200, a Certified Yoga for All Teacher, SomaYoga teacher, and a former Registered Dietitian of 36+ years. My colourful path as a Dietitian allowed me to help people in a field that I feel passionate about and set the foundation to where I am now. I worked in a variety of settings, including hospitals, clinics, private practice, public health and college level teaching. My motto - make small, simple, sustainable changes over time - an approach I firmly stand by because I know first hand how it cultivates a peaceful relationship to food while the alternative fuels the opposite. I have had the privilege of helping many people meet their nutrition and health goals this way, which reinforced it in my own life. Yet, for society at large, and even for many of the clients I worked with, the struggles with food and body expectations are rampant. The constant cycle of extreme eating patterns in the endless pursuit of the perfect weight, size, shape. The shame, guilt and frustration - struggles stemming from deep seeded thoughts and beliefs primarily fueled by our diet and fitness culture/industry. The slow small sustainable, steady approach is great but it still doesn’t get to the root of WHY people eat. I began to feel increasingly drawn to find more effective ways to help people overcome these challenges, so that they could live a full life, free from what the outer world attempts to convince them of. Prior to becoming a licensed facilitator/coach in AIH, I used mindful eating approaches, including many of AIH's mindful eating resources, but I still didn't feel I had enough expertise to help people dig deeper or even get them interested in digging deeper. I felt frustrated and needed to find a different path. As an avid fitness enthusiast, I have always been well aware of how moving our body makes us feel good, and optimizes our health. Beyond that, it cultivates a deeper connection to it. This became more evident to me when yoga became a consistent practice for me in 2016. I began to experience a profound shift in the way I related to my body and my inner world. I became much more attuned with both, and with the messages they were giving me. It deepened my ability to listen, trust and follow my intuition in every aspect of my life, including my own eating. I was absolutely convinced that it was the missing piece in helping people transform their relationship to food and their body and it stirred a deep curiosity within me to find out. A powerful tool to help people truly learn what was beneath their eating behavior. Following my intuition, I signed up for Yoga Teacher Training so that I could share with others what yoga was doing for me. Within 2 weeks, I noticed a facebook event post by AIH for their first ME-Yoga retreat in Sedona in 2017. Without hesitation, I signed up! The retreat was a blessing, as it confirmed what was calling me - to weave mindful eating practice and yoga! A focus over the past 5+ years has been on deepening my practice and studies in yoga philosophy and honing my yoga teaching skills. I have gravitated towards trauma informed trainings and in SomaYoga - which focuses on sensory motor re-education for releasing chronic holding patterns (in body and mind) that cause tension and pain, and cultivating functional movement. The approach ties in really nicely with re-learning belief patterns and habits. I became an AIH?ME-Yoga facilitator in May 2018, and again experienced the beautiful synergy between the two disciplines. In May 2020, I became an AIH?Mindful Eating Coach and in Dec 2020, I became a Certified S.W.A.T. Institute Empowerment Coach so that I can help my clients delve deeper into the underlying emotions to their choices around food and in life in general. My latest endeavours over the past year, include completing 2 apprenticeship programs around building nervous system and somatic capacity and resilience in order to help us heal from stuck patterns/survival stress/trauma and live in our fullest potential. A labour of love, years in the making. Constantly learning and growing. |
