Charlene is a journey of mindful health and self-care

At lunch one day this week I noticed that I was chomping somewhat hard while chewing my first bite of food. Once aware, and realizing that I’d forgotten to do so before starting to eat, I paused to do the Mind-Body Scan described on page 36 of Eat What You Love, Love What You Eat. Taking a moment to focus on my physical sensations, thoughts and feelings helped me realize that I had brought more to the table than just my salad. Also present was a tightness in my shoulders, whirling thoughts of work strategies and planning, and an emotional sense of urgency. I took a few deep breaths, dropped and relaxed my shoulders, turned my attention to mindfully eating my food, and enjoyed the view of the river through the window next to my table. My eating experience was instantly transformed and so was the mental state that I took with me to my next meeting. I simply love the mindful eating and living tools provided in the Am I Hungry? program. They are practical and really make such a difference!
