Lexie's Journal

Lexie struggles with her weight but is learning how to trust her body again with Am I Hungry?

Think yourself thin
Posted on 04/24/2007 @ 5:29 PM

I read an article in Redbook about "Think yourself Thin" or something like that. So of course I had to look, then I had to laugh when I recognized the advice. The message was basically "We fail on diets because of all the rules and judgement". Now where have I heard that before? It talked about not judging yourself as "good" or "bad" and not juding foods as "good" or "bad" because it sends us the wrong message and sabatoges our efforts to lose weight. If you were "bad" for eating the cookies you might as well have more. Why doesn't it work the other way around though? Why is it when I judge myself "Good" for eating a salad I then think I "deserve" a cookie (or candy or chocolate or whatever) instead of thinking, "I was good...I should choose that again!" Something is wrong with this picture. "If at first you don't succeed, try, try again!" Now there is an old adage that needs a make- over. "If at first you don't succeed, try, try again...from a different angle!" Non-Diet Weight Management Resources: www.AmIHungry.com
