When my group met today the topic was eating "mindfully". We were told to come a little bit hungry. Everyone got three hershey kisses and were asked to eat the first kiss immediately, put the second one on the table in front of us, and put the third one in our purses for later. Then we put on a blindfold and tasted different types of food like home-made salsa, kiwi, mango, Ugly fruit, dark chocolate, milk chocolate, strawberries, papaya and carrot cake.
We focused on the taste, texture, and temperature of the food and wrote down every disciptive word we could. Then we took off our blindfolds and were asked to eat the second hershey kiss....in three bites....focusing on the taste.
I had described the first kiss as "sweet". I ate the second kiss much more mindfully and came up with a lot more words to describe the chocolate. I realized that I hadn't even tasted the first piece - just popped it into my mouth and swallowed.
I realized that eating mindfully not only helps me feel satisfied, it also helps me enjoy the food more.
